Stordalen Mire. They’ll tread across sag-ging wooden boardwalks, past clusters of clear plexiglass boxes placed among the cotton grass. Once every three hours during the mire’s short growing season, the lids on the boxes will close, allowing them to fill with methane — a powerful greenhouse gas — seeping up from the soil beneath.
In May, as the temperatures in northern Sweden begin to creep to several degrees above freezing, scientists will once again descend on the squelchy peat of Stordalen Mire. They’ll tread across s

So as the vegetation dominance and presence change, so will the whole ecosystem. Undersökningsområdet ligger i Stordalen Mire, en sedan tidigare studerad torvmark i norra Sverige, där tinande permafrost förändrar landskap, växter och mikrober.
Fieldwork was conducted in Stordalen mire, 10 km southeast of Abisko (6821′N , 1849′E) in northern Sweden. The site is 25 ha in area and situated 200 km
There is also a collection prepared by B. This dataset provides measurements of the bubble flux of methane (CH₄), a strong climate forcing trace gas, to the atmosphere from three subarctic lakes located on the Stordalen Mire in northern Sweden. Ebullition rates of gas bubbling from the lake sediments containing mostly CH₄ was measured with bubble traps during the ice-free seasons of 2009 to 2017. 2020-12-10 2021-03-17 2019-09-20 Previous research shows that the permafrost of the Stordalen mire has melted quickly over the last 30 years and that the mire emits an increasing amount of methane. Rhiannon Mondav, PhD student of limnology at Uppsala University, is part of the international research group which decided to look for methanogens in the mire. The IsoGenie Project is a Department of Energy (Genomic Science Program)-funded interdisciplinary investigation of how permafrost thaw, driven by a changing climate, is altering carbon cycling in Arctic peatlands.
